Bodhi is a word for awakening. Set beside a rental business it sounds far grander than anything software can deliver, so here is the unglamorous version: knowing what you have, knowing where it is, and knowing what it is doing.
Most operators lose that somewhere around the second location. The board says eight kayaks. Two are in the workshop, one went out on a van an hour ago, and the only person who knows is the one who loaded it. The gap between the record and the yard is where a rental business quietly bleeds.
The first idea the name carries is that a clear view of a thing beats a confident description of it. In this category that distinction has a precise form. A count tells you how many. A unit record tells you which one, where it is, what happened to it last week and whether it is fit to go out on Saturday.
