Capability

Route Planning

Delivery and pickup runs sequenced by address, time window and vehicle capacity, built in rather than run from a second application.

How it works

Runs are built from the delivery addresses and time windows already captured at booking, so nothing is re-keyed and nothing is exported. Vehicle capacity acts as a constraint, which stops a run being built that the van cannot carry.

Deliveries and pickups are sequenced together, because on any given morning a driver is doing both, and planning them apart is what produces the doubling back.

The sequence is the plan for the morning. Following the van while it drives that plan is a job of its own, so live position, driver alerts and the missed-stop audit sit on the delivery vehicle tracking page rather than here.

The addresses come off the reservations. The run is built as one loop that turns right out of the depot and right back into it, so no road is driven twice and no stop is passed before its window opens.

Every stop closes with a photo, a timestamp and a location, which is what settles a delivery dispute in October.

What it removes

A driver crossing the same road four times because the run came out of a spreadsheet.

The number to watch is stops per driver hour, and the miles behind them.

What it does not do

Route planning builds and sequences the run. Live vehicle position, idle and speeding alerts and geofencing belong to delivery vehicle tracking and to vehicle tracking, which are their own capabilities on this site.

The sequence re-adapts when the orders change. It does no traffic re-routing, so a bridge backed up at ten o'clock is still the driver's call.

Every capability page on this site carries a section like this one. Why that is.

What is route planning in rental software?

Delivery and pickup runs sequenced by address, time window and vehicle capacity, built in rather than run from a second application.

Bodhisys handles it as part of the platform rather than as a paid module or a partner integration. There is no monthly fee. A 4.5% charge is added to each reservation and paid by your customer at checkout.

Questions

Does it track the driver live?

Route planning sequences the run from addresses, time windows and vehicle capacity. Live position and driver alerts are delivery vehicle tracking, which is a separate capability with its own page.

Do we need a separate routing tool?

No. Runs are built from the delivery details captured at booking, with no export step.

Does it plan pickups as well as deliveries?

Yes, in the same run, which is what avoids the doubling back.
